Interior Cabin Vs Ocean-View on Carnival Cruise Ship Review, Photos

The overarching idea for Carnival's ship deployments is that a large percentage of the U.S. population can reach one of the line's ships by car, saving the cost of flights. Indeed, if you're going on a Carnival cruise, the odds are you're driving to the ship, not flying, and you're probably not paying much more than you would for a trip to a local beach town. Cruise travelers who enjoy specialty coffees, drinks, and snacks will enjoy the Bistro Cafe on the Carnival Fantasy. The Carnival Fantasy has two almost identical dining rooms on deck 8 that are divided by the galley. In addition to Internet access at this computer center, the Carnival Fantasy also has WiFi available throughout the ship.

When combined with the lack of windows, they can feel a bit claustrophobic. A Porthole stateroom (category code PT) on a Carnival cruise is still classed as an Interior room, despite the fact that you’re getting a (limited) view of the ocean. These rooms have twin round windows that are small, but do allow some natural light into the room. When it comes to inside staterooms on Carnival cruise ships, there are lots of different types to choose from, each of which has a category code. While not every ship will have every category, there will still be lots of different accommodation types to consider.

While both Mikhaila and Monica had robes waiting for them in their rooms, Mikhaila also had slippers.

A Junior Balcony stateroom features the same size balcony as standard Balcony rooms, just with a little less interior space. Any time you’re in your room, you’re just steps away from your own personal outdoor oasis, featuring the sort of sea view you can also feel. Although the Carnival Fantasy has only 54 balcony cabins, the ocean view cabins are adequate in size and storage space, and the interior cabins are the same size and configuration. Oceanview cabins on Carnival ships can sometimes be bigger than inside cabins and even bigger than balcony cabins (when comparing their interior space). On Carnival Panorama, some oceanview cabins measure 185 square feet — the same as inside cabins.

Randy Young is the founder and editor-in-chief at Cruise Spotlight. He has been in marketing for 19 years and has been cruising for just as long. Over the years, he's worked with products like TVs, copiers, light bulbs, and EV chargers, but cruising has always been his passion. There's nothing Randy likes more than the first couple of hours on a ship, exploring every nook and cranny and seeing how it's different from everything else out there. He's known for providing detailed and analytical coverage of cruising to help cruisers get a comprehensive picture of a ship's offerings.

Having someone else onboard our Carnival Celebration afforded us the opportunity to see how their balcony stateroom compared to our inside cabin. A stateroom featuring the most indoor space, a balcony and some of the best perks on the ship. Relax in your own personal outdoor oasis… designed for maximum sea breeze and the most stunning views.

Because you can’t fit two in the same bed, they’re not ideal for couples unless you don’t mind sleeping separately. They’re good for cruising with a friend, as long as one of you doesn’t mind the smaller bed. If you’re a single parent with one child then this room type could be absolutely perfect. I’m not aware of any interior rooms larger than the premium option. From my experience, Carnival’s interior rooms vary in size and pricing. It’s important to compare room sizes and prices to find the best option for your budget and needs.

The dedicated Havana deck area has a much smaller patio area with only a small pool on the side of the ship (rather than the large infinity pool off the back like the Vista-class ships). The number one reason that people choose to book an Interior cabin on a cruise is to save money. And for that reason, I don’t think there’s such a thing as a ‘bad’ Interior cabin on a Carnival cruise. If space is important to you, and you think you’ve got the budget to spare, then a Balcony could be a better option than a Carnival cruise interior room. They’re the best choice if you are prone to feeling cramped because even just a small balcony in the fresh air can feel very open and relaxing.

Though we were on a Thanksgiving cruise, we decorated our stateroom doors for Christmas.

These rooms solve all the basic needs; they have a comfortable bed, access to a private bathroom, and good A/C. Keep in mind that some staterooms and features are exclusive to specific ships, so be sure to check out the amenities on board the ship you choose. You’ll sleep well knowing you’ve chosen the right spot for snoozing while cruising. Whether you’re cruising as a single parent or times two with kids in tow, you’ll effortlessly pack in more fun activities and bonding time than you ever thought possible on vacation. No matter what age your kids, there’s plenty of onboard entertainment that lets your family interact with favorite childhood characters and games.

With the creation of the Excel-class, Carnival Cruise Line finally hopped on the industry bandwagon by building new ships that can hold 40% more passengers than anything the cruise line had built before. Most cruise ship beds feature mattresses that are rather thin and can feel lumpy from so many nights of use. Perhaps it was because the ship was new, but the mattresses felt thick and supportive, giving us a great night’s sleep. The cabin bathroom was a traditional size as other ships we’ve sailed, which is to say it is small but manageable. It features a counter, shelves for toiletries, a commode and standing shower. There was also a makeup mirror that folded in and out to save space.

In fact, the lower tiers of the Carnival program are among the most stingy in the entire cruise universe. You'll receive things like a single complimentary bottle of water (at the Red tier) and a single free drink that only can be ordered on the last night of a cruise (at the Gold tier). As is typical with cruise line loyalty programs, lower tiers don't bring all that much in terms of truly valuable benefits. One or two nights a cruise, there will be a more formal "cruise elegant" night where men are expected to turn out in dress slacks and a dress shirt, preferably with a sports coat, or even in a suit.

Each suite can have different features depending on the ship; sometimes floor-to-ceiling windows, other times, a dedicated seating area and jacuzzi. Because there aren’t many of these types of rooms on a ship, they often sell out quickly. The biggest suites on Carnival Panorama, the ship's eight Grand Suites, have 345 square feet of interior space, plus an 85-square-foot balcony. Contrast that to the biggest suites on Royal Caribbean ships, which can measure more than 1,500 square feet. Additionally, each evening the bunk bed would come down from the ceiling for the fourth bed to be used. Compared to our inside cabin, the bunk bed in the extended balcony stateroom was not visible during the day and did not take up space until it was being used.

From an old college friend gathering to a ladies-only birthday bash or golfing buddy getaway, cruise ships are the perfect place for group vacations. Whether you have 10 or 20 people in your group, there’s something to do and see even if everyone differs in age, abilities and interests. Before you book your cruise, you will want to know which stateroom you should call your own. Getting familiar with the types of staterooms helps you choose the sleeping space that offers you the most comfort based on your personal preferences and personality. It could also depend on whether you’re cruising solo, plus-one, with the family or as a group.

While we were surprised to see a more spacious shower in our bathroom, we were even more surprised to see the extended balcony stateroom had the exact same size shower as we did. The only difference between our inside cabin stateroom and the extended balcony cabin was the door. The newest cruise ships are being built with more balconies than any other stateroom category, and Carnival Celebration is no exception. As much as I love a balcony, it's not always in my budget to splurge on the up charge. Similarly, you'll find Havana balconies, as well as Cloud 9 spa balconies, each of which come with their own set of fun perks.

But, before you go ahead and pick one, let’s just make sure that an Interior room is in fact the best room for you. Havana Interior cabins are available on Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration, Carnival Jubilee, Carnival Venezia, Carnival Vista, Carnival Horizon and Carnival Panorama. And you also get one free evening of Night Owls babysitting at the kids club, which is great for when parents want a little bit of quiet time. Cloud 9 Spa Interior rooms are available on Excel Class, Vista Class, Dream Class and Sunshine Class ships.

Platinums also get complimentary wash-and-fold laundry service (with a limit of two to five bags, depending on the length of the cruise). Members earn one point for every night they sail on one of the line's ships. During the day, there is no specific dress code, and people dress casually.

In recent years, Carnival also has deployed two of its vessels to Australia to operate voyages from Sydney and Brisbane. In a departure from Carnival's American-focused business model, the Australia sailings are aimed mostly at the local Australian market, though they are open to American travelers. For the most part, Carnival ships sail relatively short voyages of three to eight nights. Carnival has just begun operating its first truly giant ships in years, the 181,808-ton, 5,282-passenger Mardi Gras and the 183,521-ton, 5,374-passenger Carnival Celebration. However, the line's next-biggest vessel, the 4,090-passenger Carnival Venezia, measures just 135,225 tons. That's about 40% smaller than the biggest ships operated by Royal Caribbean.
